What does it give you? Equipment The club has over 90 boats that are available to club members; whatever discipline you want to get into we have a boat that can match it. We also have all the relevant gear to go with the boats; again free to use if you are a member of the club, these include buoyancy aids, spray skirts, helmets, paddles, wetsuits cags and many more items. Storage So your one of those lucky people who have all their own kit and boats, what can we offer you?? how about storage, we have a warehouse where we keep club boats and personal boats. Pool The club has access to a pool on a Monday night at Welbeck collage for polo training. Tuesday night 9pm till 10 pm at the university pool and Thursday 8pm till 10pm at the university pool for general use, skill practice and beginners. These sessions are free for members. Trips The club runs many trips throughout the year, usually two trips per term (dependant on popularity and weather). Most of these trips are subsidized by the club and range from beginner trips to advanced. Even if you don’t want to paddle some people come on the trips just for the transport and accommodation and use it to go walking, or pursue other hobbies. The club also does international trips and over the past few years have organized trips to the Alps in France. Finally the people you meet in the club are generally keen to give anything a go and will organize trips amongst themselves to do anything from rock climbing to surfing Socials As is the tradition in Lufbra any club you join will run lots of socials throughout the year and the canoe club is no different. What is different is that we do things like paintballing, go carting and obviously go out and drink a bit too much.. Training The club offer in-house training absolutely free and will subsidize any outside course or qualification that will benefit the club like the BCU star awards and coaching qualifications. The club pushes those who want to get better to be better, with people who are complete beginners often becoming capable of instructing others in their second and third years. Competitions The club competes in four competitions each year; white water racing, slalom, polo and rodeo. They are weekend events and naturally competitors are usually hungover for the Sunday events. They are great fun and good social events mixing with lots of other universities. Finally you get out of the club what you put in, unlike other sports clubs you don't have to attend any of the training or even get into a boat. The club is just as much a social group as an activities group and the friends you make here will last a lifetime.
