I'm standing for Chair in order to lead the club into the next year and will be aiming to make improvements both on the casual and competitive side, through more regular whitewater paddling both at HPP and weekend trips. I also intend to implement more discipline-specific training in order to help the club perform as well as possible at BUCS events. I want to organize more joint events with other universities in the form of joint socials and training.
Hi, I’m Patrick. For those of you that know me know I have been part of the club for 3 Years now!
You should vote for me as Vice-Chair because:
- I know how the club operates
- 8 years Kayaking experience particularly in whitewater
- 4 Years Professional Coaching/Leadership experience
- Best Driver in the club
I would also bring new ideas and competitions to the club such as a Lboro freestyle League and more regular whitewater competitions run by the club and external competitions.
Also I would work with polo, slalom, and sprint captains to help develop and strengthen our teams, so we can win as many medals and BUCS points as possible!
Vote for me if you want the most fun Vice-Chair ever!
I am a very trustworthy and cooperative person who works carefully when it involves finance. I will make sure that the committee is regularly updated about the financial status. I have great organisation skills and management skills. I would love to be a part of the Canoe Committee and hope my manifesto explains why I’d be a great addition to the team.
I would love to be welfare and diversity rep as I have had a great first year being part of the club and would love to help others feel as welcomed and included as I have. I've really enjoyed getting to know new people and can't wait to continue this next year. I've also really enjoyed attending the sober socials and would love to be involved with organising these next year and coming up with new ideas. I'm also clearly a lovely person and always up for a laugh or joke. Although I may be slightly quieter, I think this makes me more approachable and I'm a good listener which would be useful if people ever have any issues that they want to discuss.
Hi I’m Dan and I want to run for training sec next year. I’ve already been on committee for a year as kit sec and I’m ready to take on extra responsibility with a more central role. I have a good bit of experience across multiple disciplines within paddlesport and can use that to my advantage for organising the training programmes for the club to maximise our potential! I also take sports science, which hopefully gives me a little bit more background knowledge into training (or I’ve wasted £30k). I want to focus and change a couple of aspects of training, which in short are the structure of sessions in the freshers training to improve retention, the utilisation of alumni to help provide coaching for our higher level paddlers, and improving the direction of our training within general sessions. I’m happy to speak to anyone in more detail regarding the directions I want to take the club. Thanks for reading! Dan
Hi, I’m Catrin and I’m running for polo sec this year! Having been introduced to polo a year and a half ago through the club, I have a solid understanding of what it's like to learn polo at uni. I would like to maintain and build on the quality of our polo over the last couple of years and also develop those who don't make it onto the teams. Being comps sec last year has given me an understanding of the committee and experience in organising trips and training. My aims are: • Gather regular feedback so that the sessions can be tailored to what people want. • Enter more competitions, for example, div 2 like we did this year, but with a greater focus in looking into entering women’s and more intermediate friendly leagues, e.g. div 3, so more people can get extra comp time. • Train up more people to referee as it gives people better understanding of the game and also is good for comps to have plenty of people who can ref. • Organise more frequent canal sessions to work on skills and fitness, as well as maximising the pool time we already get. I love coaching and polo, and look forward to what's coming this year. If you want some good polo, be sure to vote for me for polo sec! Any questions let me know :)
I am applying to become the LSCC competitions sec this year. I would be responsible for entering and preparing for canoe competitions such as BUCS WWR and Slalom. I am applying for this position as I have enjoyed competitions so far this year. My favourite part of this year's competitions has been the wide variety of events I have been able to do as a fresher. If elected I would encourage any club members to put themselves forward for these events. I would enter people into events they will enjoy and also be challenged by to improve their experience within the club. Having a variety of experience levels at each competition would help to strengthen the community within the club. Before each competition, I would provide additional training sessions for each event. Not only would this improve our standings in results, but it would also help club members feel more prepared, it would improve the positive attitude towards the event. As well as being well organized, which is essential for the role, I am a strong communicator. I am happy to speak to all members of the club surrounding competitions, whether this is encouraging freshers to take part in their first BUCS event, or liaising with other members of committee to ensure we are prepared for the events, eg. speaking with kit sec on repairing kit or purchasing new equipment. I would also be working with the polo sec to organize the BUCS Canoe Polo tournament. In summary, elect me as you LSCC competitions sec for well organized and inclusive entries into canoe events throughout this year!
I want to run for Social Sec as I want to provide the best possible socials for the club going into 2024 for returners and freshers to the club. Secondly, I want to give back to the cub for all it's down for me with paddling and socials wise. Personally, I have come along a long way if it wasn't for the oppotuinutes put on by the club and the socials. I feel that I would be a good social sec as I understand the organisation it takes to run the socials, juggling work and uni commitments already and still performing well academically. I believe I can stay well aware of the needs of being prepared in terms of venue and being aware of dates and times. I also believe that I have the relevant communication skills to talk with the other committee members, members of the club, external companies and staff so social scan operate and run smoothly and there can be a variety of socials throughout the year for everyone. In regards to what I want to do more, working alongside Welfare, I want to be able to run more sober socials where people can relax and provide the opportunity to be in an environment not solely base don alcohol. People will be able to play a range of boardgames, video games and/or watch films with the option of snacks, food and drinks. This is something I want to be able to run regularly and even have the possibility of booking out lecture rooms to improve the socials…bigger screen. This is an aim I definitely want to try and achieve and being social sec can give me the chance. I still want to also run the more alcohol-based socials but to also have the possibility to have different kind of socials. Personally, I want to give out more prizes at socials for winners of events, people who complete challenges set out beforehand as well as during the events and socials. I plan for these to range from alcohol, to food (lots of food/snacks) to potentially paddling/sport related prizes. Incentives for all you broke and hungry uni students. I also want to hear form you guys about improvement sand potential ideas for socials form the boring to absurd and I will see what I can do to improve socials, prizes and overall club bonding and enjoyment. Also my favourite dinosaur fact if people want to know is that Herbivorous dinosaurs contributed to global warming by passing gas developed from undigested food. Thank you
Hi, I’m running for media sec this year. I love taking photos and having an A-level in photography means I should know a bit about using a camera. I’ve really enjoyed helping Zed a little this year with some media and am really keen to match Zed’s amazing efforts this year myself this next year. They’ve given me a good insight into what’s involved with media so I feel confident I could do a good job. Who knew taking photos at Slalom would also be a full on cardio workout! Another important part of being media is obviously the social media side, mainly being Instagram. Even though I don’t have as much experience with this side of the role I’m really keen to learn more about content creating. I do have experience promoting through social media from setting up a new section for Sea Cadets which involved using social media, mainly Facebook, to promote the new section which was a huge success. I continue to promote ongoing activities and successes for the unit using Facebook. If I was to be elected as media rep, I would want to continue to grow the club's social media presence to ensure we have a good intake of freshers again this year to keep the club going strong. I also aim to capture the all-important mug shots, binning’s and swims, as well as getting you all those Instagram worthy action shots! Thanks for listening/ reading, Amy
I schlalom and fix boats
Volunteering and Fundraising Officer - I would use my organizational and communication skills to increase the number of events held by introducing fun, engaging activities to attract donors and volunteers. I believe in building a culture of giving and community involvement, and I am dedicated to making a meaningful impact.
